Description: Couch potato or sport dog- we make fitness fun! These classes are designed to provide training and information to improve strength, function and performance while preventing injury in daily activities and sports. Small class sizes allow for individual attention. Exercises are customized to meet individual needs of both dog and handler.

AKC Fit Dog assessment: These classes are named “Fit Dog Plus” because we exceed AKC Fit Dog class requirements! Fit Dog Plus-Fitness I-II– This is a combined level l-ll course. This course covers the necessary foundations for fun, safe and effective fitness training. We go beyond the basics as we cover trainer skills, markers, targeting, correct posture with emphasis on good form and beginning/intermediate exercise skills. All students start in Fitness I for the first 6 weeks. Upon completion of Fitness I skills you can move on to Fitness II for the next 6 weeks. Upon completion of 6 weeks in Fitness II, students may opt to continue in level II as drop-in pay per class OR can move up to Fitness III Circuit Workout with instructor approval. Level ll skills must be fluent before moving up to Fit Dog III & Circuit Plus.

Fit Dog III & Circuit Plus!- This course will build on the foundations from l-ll adding advanced challenges in strength and conditioning circuits, plus “Dogs In Motion” exercises that offer empowering free movement challenges through dog’s choice. Upon completion of one 6 week session, there is a drop-in pay-per-class option with instructor approval.

Eligibility: Healthy dogs, 18 months or older. Healthy senior dogs are welcome and encouraged, we can modify as needed! Dogs with history of previous injury will require documented veterinary clearance. All dogs must have satisfactorily completed basic obedience training and be able to work safely around other dogs and humans in a busy class setting. Email with any questions to dogsontheball@gmail.com.

Level 1 1:30-2:30. Level 2, 3:00-4:00. Optional assessment for earning points toward AKC Fit Dog titles.

Eligible dogs must healthy and injury-free, 18 mos. minimum age (younger with instructor approval only), have completed basic obedience training and be able to work under control in class setting with other dogs and handlers. Veterinary clearance required for dogs with previous injury or chronic health conditions. Max. per class is 6 dogs and handlers.

Fall-Winter 2022-23– Canine Fitness classes taught by AKC Level 3 Fit Dog Instructor, Char Turner. 6 week Classes starting Mondays Nov. 7 and 2:00-3:00 & Tuesdays Nov 8, 3:30-4:30 at Love On A Leash, Harrisonburg VA.

$160.00 for Level 1 course. Upon instructor assessment, graduates will be issued the AKC Fit Dog Graduation Certificate worth points toward the AKC Fit Dog title.

In addition to beginning exercises for cardio, strength and flexibility, we cover specific training techniques for proper form, intentional motion with control and a priority on keeping our dog in the game for fun!

Eligible dogs need to be healthy and free of significant past or present injuries. Must have completed basic obedience classes and able to work safely around other dogs and people. The course is designed for dogs 18 months of age and older, but younger dogs may participate with modifications. If in doubt, please obtain a note from your veterinarian for participation in the class.
